Extended Caravan Warranty: What to Ask Before Signing, Sunrise Caravans blog article (Guides & Tips)

Extended warranty sounds lovely. But what does the contract actually cover, who is responsible and how does a claim work when you are away from home? That is the bit worth a proper look.

This guide does not describe a Sunrise warranty or endorse a warranty provider. It is a list of questions to ask about any extended warranty product.

Know which protection you are discussing

A manufacturer's warranty, an extended warranty contract and insurance are different things. An extended warranty is generally an additional contract with its own conditions, rather than a promise that every fault is covered.

Your rights under Australian Consumer Law are separate. A manufacturer's warranty ending does not automatically mean those rights end. Seek guidance from the ACCC or your state consumer agency if you are unsure.

Ask what is covered and what is not

Request the full contract before signing. Ask about covered components, exclusions, claim limits, excesses and whether labour, diagnosis or travel costs are included.

Ask how age, previous faults, modifications and the way you use the van affect eligibility. Do not rely on a summary brochure alone.

    Understand the service conditions

Ask what maintenance records you must keep and whether a particular repairer is required. Check what happens if you cannot get a service appointment while travelling.

Keep receipts and service records. Get unclear conditions explained in writing. Claim time is a rotten time for surprises.

Check the claim process away from home

Find out who approves repairs, whether approval is needed before work starts and who pays the repairer. Ask what support is available in the areas you intend to visit.

Compare the written cover with protections you already have. If you need advice about a disputed claim, contact the relevant consumer agency or an independent adviser.

Compare semi off road caravans and ask about the specific van's warranty documents. Contact us for those documents before making a decision.

    FAQs

    Finance & towing questions

The questions Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast buyers ask us most.

Caravan finance is typically a secured loan over 3 to 7 years, with the van itself as security. We arrange finance through our partner Finetic, who compare lenders for competitive rates on new and pre loved vans. Pre approval takes your budget guesswork away before you shop, and you can model repayments with the finance calculator on any van page.

Not always. Zero deposit finance is available for many buyers, depending on the lender and your circumstances. Putting 10 to 20% down usually reduces your repayments and total interest, so it's worth comparing both scenarios before you commit.

Compare the caravan's ATM (Aggregate Trailer Mass) with your vehicle's braked towing capacity, then check you still have room in your GVM, GCM and towball download limits once the van is loaded. Our towing calculator does the maths for you, and our Burpengary team will sanity check the combination before you buy. Every van comes with its weighbridge docket, so you know its real weight, not a brochure guess. Use a public weighbridge to check the loaded combination.

New vans come with the manufacturer's warranty (terms vary by brand and model, and we handle claims in our own workshop), current build standards and the chance to spec your own layout. Quality pre loved vans cost less and often come with upgrades already fitted, though pre loved stock is available from time to time only. Ask us what's coming in. Either way we'll walk you through the trade offs with no pressure.
