Everybody wants to have a trouble free holiday in their caravan and there are a number of steps you can take before you go to ensure this is
the case.
If you speak with any well-seasoned traveller, they will tell you that planning and preparation are the key to a successful trip. In
particular, there are a number of important safety measures you should consider before you hitch on your caravan and head up along the
highway to a beautiful destination like the Queensland coast.
3 steps to consider include:
Take your time to ensure you purchase the right caravan for the types of trips you will make. There are many different caravans you can buy and it is important to work out what weight and length caravan your vehicle is able to tow safely. Towing an overweight caravan is not just dangerous, it is illegal. Also, check you have the correct braking system, tow bar fitted and weight distribution. Other equipment you may consider include sway control devices, wind deflectors and towing mirrors.
Make sure your vehicle has been recently serviced before you go and you have packed any extra oil, spare tyre or coolant you might need. Ensure your vehicle and licence registrations are up to date and you have adequate insurance.
You don't want to be in a remote location or far from a hospital when an injury or accident occurs and you find out you don’t have basic
first aid equipment readily at hand. Also, if you have never purchased fire safety equipment before, now is the time to do so. A fire
blanket in the event of a fire could be a life saver.
These are just a few examples of some safety tips to consider before your trip. It pays to thoroughly do your own research and it is
recommended that you develop your own extensive checklist. Remember, preparation and planning are key to a happy experience on your caravan
adventure!
