The Tropic of Capricorn pinpoints the southernmost position of the sun – and sunshine is what the Central Queensland region delivers. The region stretches a short length of white-sand coastline and through the centre of Rockhampton. From rainforest to sandy beaches, the Tropic really has it all.
Located prominently amidst the areas’ popular Kinka Beach sits the Island View Caravan Park. The caravan park happily caters to families; featuring large grassed areas for fun and games, a swimming pool, a children’s playground, arts and crafts, bike hire, and they gladly welcome the family dog too. There are ample cooking and dining facilities available to cook up a feast for friends and family, with a proper camp kitchen, two BBQ areas and seating over-looking the pool.
The caravan park suits all types of travellers with various accommodation types; including powered and unpowered grass sites as well as van sites and slabs.
If you’d like a night off the grill, there are lots of great options for eating out nearby. Nothing feeds the family better than a big serving of fish and chips. You can find highly recommended grub over at the Kinka Kippa Take Away or mozy up the road to Yeppoon to Afishionados for suburb local seafood dishes. Also in Yeppoon, you can find the award-winning Waterline Restaurant, situated on the edge of the magical Keppel Bay Marina: it is a fan favourite for breakfast. Flour offers world-class bakery treats, while Beaches Restaurant is a great option for some low-key summer sips on their rooftop bar.
After you’ve overindulged in some of the best local food and drink haunts, you can walk it off on one of many stunning local tracks. The Capricorn Coast National Park has four different sections to explore mangroves, eucalypt forests, dry rainforest, and the epic blue waters of Keppel Bay. Highlights of the national park include a beachside picnic at Bluff Point, views over the nearby islands as well as adorable sea turtles – visible from the cliffs of Turtle lookout. For more local wildlife, you can head over to Cooberrie Park Wildlife Sanctuary in Yeppoon for a Koala cuddle, snake handling and kangaroo feeding.
